GE Electric Roaster Oven

I recently became the proud owner of the GE 17 Qt Electric Roaster Oven with Buffet Server. My original intent was to go with a smaller Rival, but I just couldn’t pass up a great bargain.
When I brought it home, my husband looked more than a little perplexed. The first words out of his mouth were ‘Isn’t it a bit BIG, for just the two of us’?
At the time, I almost agreed with him. But, I’m happy to report that I use my electric roaster oven, at least twice a week. I have become accustomed to making extra of whatever happens to be on the menu and freezing it in serving size portions. What a time saver!
I anticipate using it even more during the hot summer months. Not only will it help to keep our electricity bill in check, it will keep the kitchen a whole lot cooler.
I am SO happy with this oven. Honestly, I have found that even though this particular model will accommodate an 18 pound turkey, you don’t have to be cooking for a crowd to use it.
The buffet server consists of three large compartments. I’ve used it twice and think it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread… well almost.
The enamel on steel roasting pan is removable, for easy clean up. Of course, the roasting rack is removable, as well.
If an electric roaster oven is frequently used in your kitchen, I’d love to hear more about the types of meals you prepare in it. What specific recipe have you had the most success with?

I’ve had my roaster oven for years. They are great. You can relocate them to outside during the summer months & save on house cooling.
I’ve made lasgna, meat loaf, baked chicken, spagetti, scalloped potatoes w/ham, pinto beans, pork roasts, beef roasts, green chili verde and a zillion other things.
7-bone beef roast is probably our most favorite.
One big ol’ 7-bone roast. Have the meat counter cut it very thick (2″ or more). Put into a turkey roasting bag your potatoes, carrots. Add about a cup of water into the bag. Sprinkle veggies with 1 or 2 envelopes of dry onion soup mix. Put the roast on top of the veggies. Sprinkle over the top of the roast 2 or more envelopes of onion soup mix. You can always add extra onion on top of the roast itself. Seal up the bag and roast the heck out of it.
You’ll know it’s done when the meat is falling away from the bone. If the meat stays “solid”, it’s not done enough and will be togh to cut or chew.
If you have a big enough skillet, you can brown the roast on both sides before putting it into the roasting bag.
And, it you want, just omit the turkey roasting bag altogether. Just be sure to keep from peeking too much as that lets out the moisture and heat.
Happy eating!
when using a roaster oven, just think OVEN. It’s a SMALL OVEN. You roast/bake in it as you would your large oven!!! Don’t limit yourself to roasting meats.
I’ve been looking for the GE roaster with buffet. The walmart site sold it for 29.99, but says it not available any longer. Any ideas where i can find it??
